Why did you want to get involved with Venture for Canada?
Venture for Canada is the experience I wish existed when I was finishing school. I managed to find my way into entrepreneurial experiences a decade ago without VFC, though after seeing the deep connections the organization and its network has on Fellowship Members and Interns, I’m certain of the lifelong impact of this experience. I can say without a doubt that VFC is contributing to building a more entrepreneurial Canada. I met Scott, VFC’s founder and CEO, in 2015 at an event I was running in NB, designed to connect high-potential graduating students — and when I found out what he was up to, I told him I’d love to be involved in helping however I could. 4 years later, I couldn’t be more impressed with the growth and real social change this organization is creating. I truly believe leadership starts on the inside and radiates out, and VFC’s staff exemplify real leadership. I can’t wait to see how VFC continues to grow and deepen its positive impact across the country.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
I think the best advice is individualized. Two of my mentors — who didn’t know each other and lived in different countries — within the span of two months both encouraged me to consider that “I didn’t have to live my entire life in a year”. It resonated so deeply and really helped me slow down.
